Sister Paula Enderlewas born in Beaumont, Texas where she grew up as the thirteenthof sixteen children in her family.  She spent her childhood years in Beaumont Texas attending St. Anthony High School from gradeschool through high school. After graduating high school she entered Sacred Heart Convent in 1946. “It was an easy transition. I was going from one family to another, “ Sister Paula said.

In 1949 Sister Paula received her first assignment at Christ the King Catholic School in Houston, Texas, then she went to St. Mary’s Cathedral School in Galveston. In 1955 Sister Paula was assigned to St. Elizabeth Catholic School in Port Neches, Texas. Shortly after taking her teaching position there, the principal passed away and she assumed her role as principal for the first time. From 1955-1971 Sister Paula served as principal and teacher at Christ the King Catholic School and St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Schools in Houston, Texas.

During these years Sister Paula attended University of Houston working towards a Masters in Education and later switched her focus to counseling. In May 1971 she graduated University of Houston with a MA in counseling and went on to serve as the Dean of Students at O’Connell High School in Galveston for the next six years. In 1977 she became Dean of Students at St. Pius X High School working as a counselor and part of the administrative team.

In 1980 Sister Paula took sabbatical and studied theology at St. Louis University. When returning to Houston she served as an administrator for a US Government Grant Urban Crime Prevention Program. At the conclusion of this work she followed her heart and went to work at Christ the King again. Unlike past years she was not there as teacher or principal, but as the new Director of Lay/Social Ministry. Here she worked with the parish to provide assistance to immigrants, the homeless and hungry. She continued this work for 4 years.

In 1986 Sr. Carol Mayes asked her to be the Vocation/Formation Director, where for the next six years she trained the new young women joining the community.

In 1992 Sister Paula was elected Prioress of the community, a position she held for six years.

During the years between 1998 and 1999, Sister Paula attended Holy Names University and received a Masters in Spirituality and Culture. She worked as the parish minister at All Saints Catholic Church for four years and in 2004 became the Administrator overseeing St. Dominic Villa.

When asked about what her work has meant to her over these years and how she feels about her many years of service she said, “ It’s all been very challenging work and I was up for the challenge.”

In 2008, at the age of 80, Sister Paula retired and moved to St. Dominic Villa where she resides today. These days Sister fills her days working in the meditation garden and library at the Villa and helping others with spiritual direction.
