Sister Justin Farinella, O.P. August 24, 1921 + December 28, 2013

Sr Justin Farinella, OP entered eternal life December 28, 2013. Sr. Justin was born in Beaumont to the late Frances Galiano and Justo Farinella on August 24, 1921. Predeceased by her sister Rosetta Giardina and her brothers Johnny and J.C., Sister was the last of her siblings. She is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews who followed her life of ministry with great admiration.
After graduation from St. Anthony High School in Beaumont, Sr. Justin entered the Houston Dominican Congregation on September 25, 1939. She received her BA from Dominican College and a Masters in Religious Education from the University of St. Thomas. She took advantage of every educational opportunity possible during her entire life. Her school ministry took her to parish schools in Houston (Christ the King, St. Christopher, Sacred Heart, St. Francis de Sales as founding principal); in Port Arthur (St. Mary); in Whittier, CA (St. Gregory as founding principal). Her eight years in Community Administration included Formation Directress and General Council. She also served as Director of Religious Education at St. Frances Cabrini in Houston and at St. Charles in Nederland. In 1987 Sr. Justin and Sr. Rita Owens began a ministry for homeless women, Wellsprings, which has served over 1000 women since its inception. Sr. Justin remained actively involved in Wellsprings until 2005 and continued in a very supporting role until her death. Her gifts of vision, fidelity, determination, and indefatigable work have brought blessings to so many.
